Start with the National Museum of the United States Air Force
The National Museum of the United States Air Force is the strongest first stop for a Dayton day trip, but its collection can fill a day on its own.
The museum displays more than 350 aerospace vehicles and missiles across more than 19 acres of indoor exhibit space. Its entrance is off Springfield Pike at historic Wright Field (Gate 28B), approximately six miles northeast of Dayton.
Admission and parking are free. The museum recommends allowing the entire day to see everything, and some visitors plan for at least two days, so a shorter visit means choosing what matters most to you. Free guided tours are offered daily and last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
If this is your main stop, give it the morning and decide how much time to reserve for downtown afterward. For collection details and planning, read this National Museum of the United States Air Force visitor guide.
The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closes on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Visitors may be screened with a metal detector; bags can be searched and may be X-rayed. Firearms, knives, box cutters, food, alcohol and coolers are prohibited. Purses, camera bags, diaper bags, strollers and service animals are permitted.

Continue into downtown Dayton
Downtown Dayton gives you a choice of cultural stop or ballgame after the Air Force museum. Choose one downtown destination if you have spent much of the day at the Air Force museum.
If you want to fit in both, check the Peace Museum’s public hours and the Dragons’ game schedule before setting your plans; the attractions have different opening patterns.
The Peace Museum is at 10 N. Ludlow St., Dayton, OH 45402. It was founded in 2004 and honors the 1995 Dayton Peace Accords. It occupied the Isaac Pollack House at 208 W. Monument Ave. from 2004 to 2021, then reopened at its current address on May 27, 2022.

Choose a museum or ballpark stop
The International Peace Museum
The International Peace Museum is open to the public Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday through Thursday, visits are by appointment only. Destination Dayton gives admission as $5 per person. Its focus on the Dayton Peace Accords makes it a distinct downtown stop after the aviation collection.
If this is your choice, check the hours and appointment arrangements before setting out. The International Peace Museum in Dayton visitor guide covers the museum in more detail.
Day Air Ballpark
Day Air Ballpark, home of the Dayton Dragons, is at 220 North Patterson Boulevard, Dayton, Ohio 45402. Gates open one hour before game time for Dayton Dragons home games, so plan your downtown afternoon around the game listed on the team’s schedule.
The ballpark’s directions page names the CareSource Parking Garage, Water Street Parking Garage, Marsh & McLennan Lot, Dragons Reserved Lot, Taylor Street Lots A and B, and a wheelchair-accessible drop-off area off Monument Avenue.
The CareSource garage opens at 5:45 p.m. for a 7:05 p.m. game and at 11:45 a.m. for a 1:05 p.m. game. Metered street parking is free after 6 p.m. and on weekends.
For game-day planning, use this Day Air Ballpark game-day guide. The box office has weekday hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; on weekday game days, it operates from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. or through the seventh inning. Weekend game-day hours vary by day.

Check opening times and travel between stops
Build the day around the attraction with the narrowest opening window. The Air Force museum is open daily, while the Peace Museum has public hours only on Friday and Saturday and requires appointments Tuesday through Thursday. A Dragons game depends on the home schedule, and the ballpark opens its gates one hour before game time.
From Air View, the Air Force museum is about 46 minutes on foot or 9 minutes by car; Dayton city centre is about 88 minutes on foot or 9 minutes by car.
The Peace Museum is about 90 minutes on foot or 8 minutes by car, and Day Air Ballpark is about 78 minutes on foot or 8 minutes by car. Air View, a two-star hotel, is a starting point for arranging these stops.
Before you go, check the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force’s official site, the International Peace Museum’s official site and the Dayton Dragons’ official site for current hours, appointments and game details.
